Guerrilla Librarians is an open call to be a part of forming how your local library grows into the future. You could also describe it as being like a Wikipedia edit-a-thon except with physical books, and real cash to writers and publishers.
I love libraries, but sometimes my local library doesn’t have a certain book or author in their collection. Sometimes it even seems that they are totally underrepresenting large parts of human experience that isn’t white male and European. Become a Guerrilla Librarian and help your local library as it works to address this legacy of injustice in its collection.
Here’s how:
- Get a library card.
- Search your local library’s catalog and identify any of its omissions, blind spots, absences. No queer 19th century fiction? Intersectional theory? Diasporic memoirs?
- Locate the “purchase request” form or link on your local library’s website.
- Make a request!
- Repeat as desired 😃
